Issues with scanning coupons on IBM SA register

I have a customer who is seeing a random issue while scanning coupons with the DS6878.  We do not see this issue when scanning UPC barcodes but we do encounter an issue from time to time when scanning coupons (we can recreate the issue by scanning the same coupon multiple times).  What happens is that the register appears to be stuck (just like it has an error code but the 2x20 display does not show an error) and the user must press the Clear key before it can accept further data from the scanner.  The register dump file revealed the following:
The first message, W405, is saying “The Continued Label ID does not match the ID of the previous segment.”

The second message, W404, is saying “The device channel has reported that the scanner, bar code reader, or OCR device is not responding to polls.”

The scanner is connected to the POS using the Powered USB cable for IBM SurePOS registers.  Any insite will be greatly appreciated. This customer currently has a wired Datalogics scanner and Megellan scanner scale that does not have the issue.  The issue is only with our DS6878.
