I am looking for your help as I am putting together the case and requirements to add a capability for the RS507 to interface a PC (which cannot benefit from our APIs).

List of opportunities with quantity of units, timing and any pull through business

Any requirements such as:

Pairing by reading PC BT address off the screen

Pairing by scanning a BT address lable attached to the PC

Interface using HID profile

Ability to program the RS507 by scanning configuration bar codes

Ability to prepare a set of parameters on a PC to prepare a file to load on many RS507

What applications will be running on the PC?

What if the PC does not have Bluetooth?

Once the RS507 is back within BT range, press the RESTORE key on the side of the RS507 to restore connection, there is no need to re-pair as the RS507 retains the BT address of the PC. Amnon

I have tested RS507 with several BT dongles, several stacks and actually both XP and Vista. On 3 different PCs, by the way. SPP works most of the times. HID never did: I always get a Windows error with "Keyboard HID" driver. RS507 is properly detected as a HID kbd but HID driver never gets successfully installed!
I suspect that RS507 fw is not the latest, so I need a tool to upgrade it. And then re-test.

The latest beta firmware and utilities as well as updated instructions are available from me. I need to get information about the opportunity before I send it. HID should work.

I am currently testing the PC connection with a bluetooth dongle using the BlueSoleil software. The firmware I am using on the RS507 is PAAACC01-002-N07D0.DAT - is this the latest? I have successfully paired the scanner in HID mode, although the behavior of the connection when you start to get out of range is not acceptable. You start to get bbits and pieces of the scanned data as well as repeated characters. Once the scanner goes out of range and disconnects it is very messy to get it paired again.

Guys, The RS507 PC interface with HID and SPP profiles is funded and being done now as a CPR. We should soon be advised of the official schedule. I should be able to provide pre-release SW version for beta testing. I will update as soon as I have the detailed schedule. Thank you for being patient!

Just to update everyone. A demo software is available. THe RS507 and its battery charger should be obtained through the Demo Depot. For PCs that do not have built-in Bluetooth, an off-the-shelf USB Bluetooth dongle has to be used. The demo

Covers both SPP and HID profiles
Covers both trigger and triggerless.
Works with both StoneStreetOne (WIDCOM) stack and Microsoft stack. The WIDCOM stack is provided by us.
Include a software utility to upgrade the RS507 firmware to the PC interface version.
Includes a demo application.
Includes instructions

Configuration of the RS507 is by scanning configuration barcodes. The updated demo resolve couple of issues and there are no know issues left. Contact me for any opportunity.

I am planning on ADF support using config barcodes same as ADC scanners. We are verifying it. However, it will not prevent user to use off-the-shelf wedge application on the PC to manipulate the data as well. No intention to provide (and maintain) our own wedge application as part of this effort.

Hi, AmnonWhen do you think I can show RS507 - PC working to the customer?Best Regards.- Jaehoon - [Korea]

One reason; Intermec http://www.intermec.com/products/scansf51/index.aspx SF51 is supported to the PC by their PC ScanWedge software.

Hi Amnon,

List of opportunities with quantity of units, timing and any pull through businessWe multiple customers that would like to connect RS507 to a PC.ICA is one of them with opportunity of ~900 (if I can recall correct).
Any requirements such as:

HID and  COM port (RS232) profile is important.               COM port profile is most important, as they have a requirement that they can send feedback back to the scanner. That feedback should be a beep or multiple beeps that is distinguished from a good-decode beep. The reason is that the user will not always be front of the screen to see if they scanned the right barcode.
To acheive this in simple way without any complex API's, then COM port profile would be easiest to adapt to. They have already this today by sending a BELL character back to their current scanner solution. LXE has changed in their product to support this.

What applications will be running on the PC?For ICA it will be Terminal Emulation.

What if the PC does not have Bluetooth?A BT dongle that is connected to the RS232 port (USB didn't work due to it fell off from their forklift computer) and this worked fine for them while they did a pilot with LXE.

Hi Amnon, Other OS Systems like CE on Thin Clients is in the interest of one of our business partners. The point mentioned by Horst: Covering other OS System like CE on Thin Clients or Linux OS Systems may require a base station which will make it easy to connect to a Windows PC. Thin Client or Unix Systems. As a base station, it would be easy to use e.g. a DS3578 base. This would come along with the advantage that no drivers for different OS versions would be required. Connectivity could be serial, keyboardwedge or USB HID and serial Profiles. looks like the solution for them.Their customer is using Neoware (CE 4.2) thinclient. Requirements: - Barcode Pairing - Multi Point connections - HD and serial profile - Windows OS System, but also Thin Clients based on CE 5.0/CE 4.2 Kind regards Raymond

Amnon, Will the interface support ADF rules on the RS507?  If not, are we planning on creating a DataWedge 3.X like application for the PC to handle ADF rules on the host side? Thanks, Ken

Hello, Would you provide time frame when RS507-PC is available, please?Detail information is as below.- Jaehoon -  [TA in Korea]List of opportunities with quantity of units, timing and any pull through business- 40 units, Customer want to issue PO during Oct, Competitor:Socket

Requirements:Multi RS507 1 PC.Pairing by scanning a BT address label attached to the PCInterface using HID profile

Good Function Expected:Ability to program the RS507 by scanning configuration bar codesAbility to prepare a set of parameters on a PC to prepare a file to load on many RS507

Application.Customer is Tire Manufacturer, the worker need to use 2 hands for their working.

What applications will be running on the PC?

What if the PC does not have Bluetooth?- Customer use USB type Bluetooth module.

Customer:     DHL Wordwide: Right now 60 units required                     Abbott Diagnostigs: 50 units Requirements: - Barcode Pairing - Multi Point connections - HD and serial profile - Windows OS System, but also Thin Clients based on CE 5.0 Covering other OS System like CE on Thin Clients or Linux OS Systems may require a base station which will make it easy to connect to a Windows PC. Thin Client or Unix Systems. As a base station, it would be easy to use e.g. a DS3578 base. This would come along with the advantage that no drivers for different OS versions would be required. Connectivity could be serial, keyboardwedge or USB HID and serial Profiles. Another possibility would be to devolop a base station for RS507 only which might could have the possibility as a second function to charge the RS507 as a single cradle. For standard Windows OS Systems which are not equipped with BT hardware can be covered by using a BT USB stick. Kind regards Horst

Customer:    Myer DC: Small opportunity of up to 50 units                    Requirements:- Barcode Pairing- Multi Point connections would be bonus, but not mandatory- HD profile- application is inventory picking on Windows OS SystemCustomer is keen on hands free solution, and started investigating use of the wearable. After seeing the RS507, they are very keen to try to connect directly to PC, as their existing solution would support this easily. Note: this will not necessarily prevent them from looking at the wearable for other applications in the warehouse. For standard Windows OS Systems which are not equipped with BT hardware can be covered by using a BT USB stick.RegardsNeville
