5) Clarify Case #1965123 · The WT4090’s running Rev F BSP35 is polling the DHCP server much more often than the WT4090’s running Rev D BSP30. · The DHCP Leases the IP Address on a 3 Day Lease. · The DHCP Server is off site and maintained remotely. The issue still is that the when the WAN Link for the Distribution Centre DHCP Server failed the devices should have continued to operate as there addresses are on a 3 Day lease. However because the BSP35 REV F devices poll the DHCP server so often when they didn’t get an answer the devices fail to operate. How can this be corrected? · There was talk of using Enable IP Management in the Fusion Options Menu. However before we do this we would need to know what this does and how it may or may not help? Thanks, Alain

Chris, Do you know the Customer Service position on this patch? i.e. is it fully supported? I know you said you have it running on 80,000 devices without issue, but we would really need to know whether it was fully covered by support before we deploy it. Thanks IJ

I had the same problem. All Windows Mobile and CE devices do a DHCP renew on every roam, which is fine until you lose your WAN Link to the DHCP server. The device roams and cannot contact the DHCP server and therefore fails to operate.

The fix for this is a patch that is loaded into the platform directory of the device, which now makes the device do an ARP to the gateway on roam instead of a DHCP renew.

Therefore the result is less traffic on the network as the device doesn’t contact the DHCP server on every roam

This does not impact the normal behaviour associated with lease expiry so the device will still contact DHCP half way through its 3 day lease and at the end. However, this is against normal Windows behaviour, so this 'fix' is not released or supported...although my customer uses it in 350+ devices on one site with no issues and I have heard other customers also us it....the fix is dhcp.dll and dp.cpy

I don't think your lease is expiring.  All Windows Mobile and CE devices do a DHCP renew on every roam, so what you are probably seeing on the DHCP server side are more roams than before. You can verify this by running Netlog on the device and you can see all the DHCP traffic.  Net log is located in this post - https://devcentral.symbol.com/shwmessage.aspx?forumid=52&messageid=… We worked with Microsoft a few years ago for a special hotfix that makes the CE device work like an XP laptop; where the device does an ARP to the gateway on roam instead of a DHCP renew.  If it gets an answer, it does not renew the lease.   Feel free to try the attached DHCP.dll at your own risk.  I have had it in production on 80000 devices for two years and so far, so good. I also attached a spread sheet I did awhile back testing CE and Fusion with the Gateway up/down and the DHCP server up/down.  I would suggest re-validating the findings on the current BSP's, and then you will know the exact behavior.

Hi Chris, That sounds like it is something worth testing to see if it resolves the issues we are facing. Do you have any installation instructions on where the files need to be installed and in what particular order? Kind regards, Matt
