Swisslog said that Motorola provides a special verion of DataWedge on MC3190Z that can let the end user to use the trigger to read RFID tags, and the scan button to read barcodes. Anyone can provide me with that version? Maybe there is some setting to enable normal DataWedge to do so? Thank you! Junhua

Following is the response from the Tier-3 in RFID & mobile computing (Justin Salvage) who is based : Unfortunately, there is no way to differentiate between the yellow buttons on the keypad and the yellow trigger on the handle, even programmatically.  The only similar solution I can think of is the customer would have to develop their own application using our EMDK for .NET v2.6 (use RFID3 API), but they would need to use some other key (since all yellow trigger are “stuck” together) to use as a 2nd trigger mechanism.  When programming, they would need to make sure only one of RFID or barcode scanning is enabled at any one time since they cannot be used simultaneously.

That's why I misinterpreted your question. I though you wanted to scan RFID via trigger(s) and barcodes using software 'scan' button :) As far as I know all scan triggers on all devices are presented as the same key to the OS, regardless of which one you press (gun, left, right, top, etc). Some ideas that may or may not work: * See if it is possible to define multiple different trigger keys to invoke different input plugins - then use, say, trigger to read RFID and Space to read barcodes. * See if it is possible to utilize the Auto Profile Switching mechanism to switch between RFID and barcodes upon keypress(es) or when different application screens are presented to the user (if this is the use case) * See if you can write a small background app that will switch DW profiles using DW API when different keys are pressed. Anyway, you will have to dedicate another key for barcodes.

The RFID Input pluging for DW3 was posted on support central a while ago. Search for in the the 'software downloads' for RFID category.

Hi Arsen,

Thanks for your help!

With RFID plug-in, I can read barcodes and tags, but I found no setting to let the scan button and the trigger on MC319Z to deal with barcodes and tags respectively. What the customer wants is that when the scan button is pressed, only barcodes can be scanned, and when the trigger is pressed, only RFID tags can be read.

The closest solution I found is that to scan both barcodes and tags at the same time, but let the data go through different output way. One through keystroke, and the other through clipboard. If the customer’s application can deal those two input method separately, it may work. I'm going to open a case with the supporting team as Prashant and Chris Warner recommended, and will post the solution here as long as I get any.

Thank you!

Best Regards,
