Workabout Pro 4 - Scanner not engaging

Hello all,
 
I'm looking for any sort of thoughts on what could be causing an unpredictable issue my organization is encountering.
 
Our brand new Workabout Pro 4 models will periodically present an image on screen that states the device is scanning, however there is no laser present to scan. At this point, the only way to engage the scanner again is to completely power down the device and reboot. There doesn't seem to be any predictable pattern for when this will occur and at some points staff can go entire shifts without encountering this issue.
