RhoElements Roadmap

This is probably the wrong place for the question (moderators, please feel free to move it to where it most makes sense). Is there a good link or discussion around what strategy Motorola is taking with respect to Android and/or RhoElements development? Most of the mobile developers I know in the industry use *nix or Mac developer toolkits - Android is completely agnostic obviously. RhoElements seems to require Windows, but perhaps that is only temporary? An understanding of where "RhoElements is going" would help clear things up, and I'm happy to go read the documents, just need a rtfm link.

Many thanks!

It only requires Windows for installing the client on Windows Mobile handhelds. The HTML5 application can be developed in any tool of your choice. Or have I got things totally wrong?

Hi Scott

Yes, exactly as said, a PC is only required for the installation of the runtime environment on the device, and only for a WIndows based device.  This is however a good point and I will add to our ideas pot your point and try to think of some kind of way to OTA the installation.  In case anyone on here has some clever thoughts of how it may be achieved in the mean time, please post here...I'm thinking there may be a way to put the .CAB file on an FTP server somewhere and use IE Mobile to download and install the software.

Anyway, thanks for posting.

James.

Hi James,

If you put the .cab file on an http server it installs from pocket IE with no issues - just type in the (short!) url :-)

Does this include a public share on Dropbox?  That'd be very convenient.

Hi Scott,Thanks for the

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the question. A very good one. Today as mentioned above that is really just the case because a lot of focus for v1.0 is around Motorola devices running Windows Mobile and CE, but as mentioned a Windows environment is not a requirement. More specifically moving forward in subsequent releases we will have an Eclipse plug-in for development that will work equally well on Windows or MAC machines for use to develop RhoElements applications.

Thanks,
Mark
