Developer Portal | ET1 and Android 3.2 (Honeycomb)

Does anyone know how to upgrade the ET1 (which ships with Android 2.3, Gingerbread) to Android 3.2, Honeycomb?

We developed our mobile application using Rhomobile Rhodes 3.2 platform and need to deploy to the ET1 running Android Honeycomb.

So for Honeycomb, vendors had to commit to certain things including minimum volumes and we did not do that.

We are investigating ICS support for later this year..no confirmed dates

Tu, Honeycomb is considered

Tu, Honeycomb is considered an interm release by Google and is locked in with consumer features. Gingerbread is open source as is Ice-cream sandwich. Motorola's focus is on the enterprise so Gingerbread was selected (Ice-cream sandwich is planed but we are waiting for it to stablize). Andy's coment on vendor commit to Google is while correct has much more of an impact. The agreement is called an AFA - signing this would mean that MSI could not add the enterprise features our customer need - it would mean that our product would follow a consumer model. The plan is for us to eventually leap frog Honycomb and go to Ice-cream sandwich which is open source.

Just to picture this. Google maintains a page with the current market shares of all Android version:

http://developer.android.com/resources/dashboard/platform-versions.html

As you can see version 2.3 is still above 65% with version 2.2 above 25%.

All the 3.x plus 4.x release account for less than 5% of the current Android market share.

One part left off of this statistic is that the slow uptake is due to hardware vendors slow distribution to devices and a failure to unlock devices for users to do it for them. Users and developers are waiting for bated breath because of the significant improvements. The statistic that demonstrates a very low 4.x install base is not an excuse for a vendor to not deploy the latest version but is actually motivation to the otherwise. Vendors who deploy first generally win with market share (i.e. Galaxy Nexus has a very sub-par hardware platform but is selling quite well because of the 4.0 support.) A good number of the customizations added to the ET1 OS implementation are now base (though with differing implementation style) features.

There are no plans to offer Honeycombe(v3.x) on the ET1. Motorola Solutions did not sign up to the license requirements to have access.

Thanks for the response. Is there a particular reason why Motorola Solutions is not planning to support Honeycomb for the ET1? Most Android devices are shipping with Honeycomb, and Ice Cream (4.x) will be mainstream soon.
