Re: How do we load Chrome Mobile on MC40
Andraž Stošić Mar 12, 2013 12:34 AM (in response to Kenneth Haley)Any particular reason why would you like to run Chrome on MC40 instead of stock browser?

Re: How do we load Chrome Mobile on MC40
Kenneth Haley Mar 12, 2013 6:26 AM (in response to Andraž Stošić)We recently visited a customer who loved the look of the MC40 but stated that their app runs on Chrome and they asked if we could download the new chrome Mobile onto our device. Now being the Good Moto engineer I am I strongly suggested we give it a try with our browser, but I must follow up on the original question as well. I tried several times but could not get play the google play issue.

Re: How do we load Chrome Mobile on MC40
Andraž Stošić Mar 12, 2013 6:40 AM (in response to Kenneth Haley)1 of 1 people found this helpfulAs far as I know Chrome for Android is only available on Android 4.0 and later. If I'm correct MC40 ships with Android 2.3 so even if we find .apk it won't work. I think they could run app inside rhoelements which uses Webkit engine for rendering just like Google Chrome + added value is they can access device scanner, ...

RhoElements WebKit rendering engine is based on WebKit branch 534. Chrome for mobile is most likely based on 536 or later (I'm not sure but it's a safe bet!) so it all comes down to why the customer originally wanted Chrome

Re: How do we load Chrome Mobile on MC40
Billie Hecox Mar 12, 2013 7:13 AM (in response to Kenneth Haley)The MC40 is scheduled to update to Jelly Bean later this year which would allow you to run chrome, but it will still be partly broken. Chrome uses Google Account Services (Which is not available on the MC40 or ET1) ) to handle all the user account related data. The native browser in Ginger Bread and Jelly Bean are both based on web-kit. Is there anything specific to chrome that they need other than a web-kit engine?

Re: How do we load Chrome Mobile on MC40
Sean Kennedy May 28, 2013 8:02 AM (in response to Billie Hecox)I concur with you Bill, what is the specific support? Flash? PDF Viewing?
For what it is worth; rather than using Chrome which has many dependencies that the ET1/MC40 may not provide: Why not look at Chromium as an alternative.
Minus the Auto-Update (Which would not occur on MC40 for the same reasons Bill gave above) and no Flash ro PDF capability in-browser, its good overall, and can be owner/customer-built / supported.
Build Instructions can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/wiki/AndroidBuildInstructions
