In layout.erb add the below lines
<META HTTP-Equiv="ScreenOrientation" Content="RightHanded">
<META HTTP-Equiv="ScreenOrientation" Content="autoRotate:Disabled;">
In addition to that, open the project in XCode and set it to Landscape mode only. (see screenshot).
Do a Clean, then do the build again and try it.
We use Rhodes 3.5.1.

Thanks for the suggestions. Placing the META tags does indeed force the orientation to landscape. However, the splash screen briefly displays in portrait mode, before displaying as landscape. Also, the Rho command "rake device:iPhone:production" overwrites the Xcode project file, resetting the settings for supported orientation to include both portrait and landscape. We use the Rho commands to do our build so it can be automated.
