July 1st – 3rd sees the 11th annual Droidcon Berlin event taking place at the city’s CityCube venue.  Zebra are a silver sponsor of the event and will be showcasing our Android devices and printing hardware as well as demoing & guiding attendees through our recently launched Savanna cloud solution.

We are always keen to speak with our developers so if you are at Droidcon Berlin then come by Zebra’s booth and say hello.

Darryn Campbell, Software Architect for Zebra will be talking about what data Android devices send to Google in his talk at 4pm on the 3rd July, it should be a good talk to understand the truth behind exactly what sort of data your Android device shares with Google as well as the benefits of Zebra’s GMS Restricted mode.

Hope to see you there!

From https://www.de.droidcon.com/speaker/Darryn-Campbell:

Exactly what data is your Android device collecting about you? What does Google know about you? These are some of the most clickbaity headlines around, so it can be very difficult to find the truth between the sensational headlines and the ameliorating responses from Google. There have been some academic studies on what Google collects, how often and how much.

In this talk I will go through those results as well as present findings from my own original research. I will describe how you can go about performing your own tests on what data your phone is sending and finally discuss some of the network and on-device solutions to control what data gets sent to Google beyond just adjusting the device settings.
