Before you start (or "Step 0" for those of you who like zero-based arrays)

Check your device to see if it is GB or JB ..and whether it is a Voice or Non-Voice unit. Here's how..

- check your Build Number in Settings.. About Device.

   - if the 2nd section is "4AJ11" this unit is already on JellyBean - SKIP TO STEP 3 below

   - if it has the string "-V0-" it is a voice unit. If it has the string "-00-" it is non-voice unit

NOTE about usng RD Client - the barcodes we will use here do NOT include a WLAN configuration
- you need to configure a WLAN connection by hand and

- it needs to give you access to the Internet and allow FTP

STEP 1

If you have a GB unit, you will need to upgrade your MSP agent so it can handle the very LARGE package that is the GB to JB upGrade.
Run RD client and scan the barcode for Step 1 -- get it here: https://developer.motorolasolutions.com/docs/DOC-1899

Watch for messages as RD Client connects to the MSP Relay Server, downloads and intsalls the new MSP agent. The device will reboot.

STEP 2
Once you have upgraded the MSP agent on your GB unit, you are ready to apply the GB to JB upGrade..
If you decided you have a Voice unit use this... https://developer.motorolasolutions.com/docs/DOC-1911

or if you have a Non-Voice unit, use this instead.. https://developer.motorolasolutions.com/docs/DOC-1900

Run RD client and scan the bar code.. RD will connect to the server, download the bundle quickly (its less than 1K) , then it will say Installing
  .
Then the process will SLOW DOWN -- it takes a LONG TIME to download the very large package.. during the download RD will report every 10% and it will be silent in between..
My recommendation - don't watch it.. I think if you watch it it slows down .. I suggest getting a cup of coffee. Make it two, it's a big file..

When the file is at last downloaded competely the device will reboot into recovery mode and automatically install the new OS image.
If you have downloaded the wrong one (voice/non-voice) the update will fail with an error message about an assert failure. Reboot and try the other one.

STEP 3

Once you have upgraded to JellyBean, you will want to be on the LATEST version of JellyBean, right?

The barcodes to upgrade from any version of JellyBean to the latest version are also voice/non-voice specific, so..

if you have a Voice unit, get the bar codes here... https://developer.motorolasolutions.com/docs/DOC-1913
and if you have Non-Voice unit get your bar codes here...https://developer.motorolasolutions.com/docs/DOC-1912

As described in Step 2 above, the process goes pretty quickly until RD starts to download the pacakge, then it slows down.

See the note above about not watching it and gettiing coffee - better make it decaf this time.

If you have any problems, please post them here along with information about what error code you saw and/or what messages you got.
We'll be watching for any issues.. so..

Enjoy the process, don't drink too much caffeine, and DON'T WATCH IT (really I would swear it slows down. how it KNOWS you are watching I don't know)

Oh one last thing, as soon as we have a newer OS we'll upload it and update this blog - so you can bookmark this page if you like.
At the end of the EAP program we'll move the upgrade info to a more public forum.
