note on the SES compass site we also have a tool that logs all access to the registry via a shim. A little differnent and more low level than rem capture but may also help here. The site is at http://compass.mot-solutions.com/go/ses-home

RemCapture Can be used to find the reg key for the keylight by following the steps bellow.  1. Connect the MC65 to the PC via ActiveSync.  2. Open RemCapture.  3. Click Baseline (+). 4. Go to Settings->System. 5. Select Backlight & Keylight icon 7. Select Keylight and change the selection and Click OK to save the settings.  8. On RemCapture click Difference (-) Once the difference capturing completed following change will appear with other registry differences.  [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keylight] "Keylight" = dword:00000001 - "The value could be different" Make sure that [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keylight] is not in the registry "Exclusions" list

On the MC65 the keylight settings are saved in the registry under [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\KeyLight] KeylightMode=dword:00000000 is indeed disabled. Note the HKEY_CURRENT_USER not HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Full registry entry pulled from my MC65. Again note well HKEY_CURRENT_USER! [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\KeyLight] "ACKeylightOnKeyboard"=dword:00000000 "ACKeylightOnTap"=dword:00000001 "ACKeylightOnTouch"=dword:00000000 "ACTimeout"=dword:0000003c "BatteryKTimeOut"="60000" "BatteryTimeout"=dword:0000003c "ExternalKTimeOut"="60000" "KeylightMode"=dword:00000000 "KeylightOnKeyboard"=dword:00000000 "KeylightOnTap"=dword:00000001 "KeylightOnTouch"=dword:00000000

I had a similar problem with the latest version of remcapture...I accidentally figured out the problem Look in the View Pulldown and select Exclusions...you will probably find that the registry hive this value in=s in is excluded ....When I have trouble I delete all the exclusions and typically I find my registry change

Hi Ignacio. Here is the reg key ... not sure if the KeylightMode = 0000001 to disable, as the 000000 is enabled. You can download Motorola's REMCAPTURE application from  http://support.sumbol.com and run snapshot before with it enabled, than disable it manually and do the compare. It will have a bunch of other reg files that you do not need but lookd for the one below and see what the dword is to disable it. Make sure after you active sync the reg file over to the MC65 that you double click on the reg file and select REG MERGE. It will put the setting in the registry, BUT then you will need to warm/cold boot the device for the setting to take effect.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\KeyLight] "KeylightMode" = dword:00000000 Paul.

Thank you Paul I've several years working with RegSave and Remcapture and neither of them are able to detect any change in the registry. BTW "KeyLightMode" entry is not working wirh this.
