What is the best way to programmatically switch between the Barcode scanning module and one of the Workflow modules?

We have a custom application which needs the option to switch between the two options (Barcode scanning and Free Form OCR specifically) from within the application. I looked at the Switch Data Capture API (https://techdocs.zebra.com/datawedge/latest/guide/api/switchdatacapture/), but from testing it seems this only works for switching between options within the same category (eg. Toggling barcode highlighting or switching between workflow options). Would creating multiple profiles and switching between those be better?
