NAT vs IP forwarding

I have a customer who has approximately 600 Hotspot subscribers via our RFS7000 and AP300. When I configure the RFS7000 using NAT instead of IP forwarding, I notice that the processor power when up very high and sometimes hang the RFS7000. When I change the routing back to the router to perform the routing it works perfectly. Have you come across this issue? In our datasheet it mentions that our RFS7000 is capable to support up to 96,000 subscribers, how does this work? Derry
