All, A partner asked the following using Aeroscout as an example.... "Since WiNG now supports 3rd party locationing/RTLS engines, can a customer just buy the Aeroscout Tags, Exciters and use the Location Engine out of WiNG?" Hence, why would or whouldn't they need to get the Location Engine that Aeroscout is pushing? Would they get the same functionality? Same I guess applies to the others supported in WiNG. Cheers Harry

Hi Harry, The WiNG architecture supports overlay RTLS solutions form Ekahau,Aeroscout and Newbury and in these deployments Motorola WLAN simple acts as the WLAN infrastructure. The RTLS functionalty released in WiNG 1.2 is used to support independent WiFi tags (not from ekahau, aeroscout or newbury) and devices and also RFID but is not a substitute for the overlay RTLS engines from Ekahau, Aeroscout and Newbury. To use tags from Ekahau, Aeroscout and Newbury with the Motorola WLAN you will always need the following from these vendors: 1. Tags 2. Location Engine 3. Application Please see the attachment wich depicts the Motorola RTLS deployment (column 1) and comapres it with Ekahau and AeroScout deployments on our infrastructures (columns 2 & 3) Hope that helps Regards -Sameer
