5) Clarify Case # 1919480 Customer is UPS
customer using WT4090. Built-in to their application is to cold boot device when in Ethernet Cradle if date is older then present day to clean out old data (data uploaded each day) When device is booting up from the cold boot, the customer will intermittently receive the following error "ABSTART.EXE ERROR: 0S80000002". They do not use Airbeam nor MSP. Is there somewhere to look up what this error indicates? As per TA, ABStart.exe is in the registry to launch, check to see if needed and close if not.. Customer does not wish to disable the device from doing this, in case they decide to use it in the future, they want the issue fixed. Please let me know if there is a location that I can research this error code.

0xC0000005 is an access violation.  An application is attempting to read data outside of its process space.

Thanks George Sent that information back to TA...

Error code 0x8000002 is a Microsoft error code indicating an out of memory condition.  My guess would be that ABStart tried to grab a block of memory and couldn't.

Thanks George, forwarded info to TA. UPS will start debugging memory conditions during startup

Hi George / ECRT , customer came back stating getting another Airbeam error even though they are not using Airbeam .. Their software makes the device cold boot when inserted in the Ethernet Cradle and compares date of last upload to current date. Customer is UPS, just to reiterate. the error code  they received this time was 0xC0000005. It was helpful that you were able to state what the original error code was .. hoping you can do the same with this error code..

The error message "ABSTART.EXE ERROR: 0S80000002" encountered by the customer using the WT4090 device is indicative of an issue with the ABStart.exe application. This error typically occurs during the boot-up process, specifically when the device is cold booting from the Ethernet Cradle. The customer's application is programmed to trigger a cold boot if the device's date is older than the current day, presumably to clean out old data, as data is uploaded daily.

To address this error effectively, it's crucial to understand the underlying cause and potential solutions. Here's a breakdown of steps to investigate and resolve the issue:

  1. Error Analysis: The error code "0S80000002" may indicate a specific error condition within the ABSTART.EXE application or its associated processes. However, this error code is not standard and may be specific to the application or device firmware.
  2. Documentation and Support Resources: The first step in troubleshooting this issue is to consult the official documentation provided by the device manufacturer or any available support resources. These resources may include user manuals, technical guides, or online forums where users and experts discuss similar issues.
  3. Registry Configuration: According to the technical advisor (TA), ABStart.exe is a component configured in the device's registry to launch and perform necessary checks during the boot-up process. It's essential to verify that the configuration of ABStart.exe is correct and aligned with the device's requirements. However, modifying registry settings should be approached with caution, as incorrect changes can lead to further issues.
  4. Error Code Interpretation: Since the error code "0S80000002" does not have a readily available interpretation, it may require deeper analysis or consultation with the device manufacturer's technical support team. They may have insights into the specific conditions or scenarios that trigger this error code and possible remedies.
  5. Testing Environment: Creating a controlled testing environment to replicate the issue consistently can help in diagnosing the root cause. By systematically altering variables such as network connectivity, date settings, and application usage, it may be possible to isolate the conditions that lead to the error.
  6. Firmware Updates: Ensuring that the device's firmware is up-to-date is essential, as manufacturers often release firmware updates to address known issues, improve stability, and enhance functionality. Installing the latest firmware version may resolve the error if it is caused by a known bug or compatibility issue.
  7. Vendor Communication: If the issue persists despite troubleshooting efforts, reaching out to the device manufacturer's technical support team or vendor may be necessary. Providing detailed information about the error, steps taken for troubleshooting, and any relevant system configurations can facilitate a more targeted and effective resolution process.
  8. Long-Term Solution: While the customer expresses reluctance to disable the cold boot functionality, it's important to explore alternative solutions or workarounds that address the underlying data cleanup requirement without triggering the error. Collaborating with the customer to understand their specific needs and constraints can help in devising a long-term solution that balances functionality and stability.

In summary, resolving the "ABSTART.EXE ERROR: 0S80000002" issue requires a systematic approach that involves analyzing error conditions, consulting available resources, testing different configurations, and potentially seeking assistance from the device manufacturer or vendor. By addressing the root cause effectively, it's possible to achieve a stable and reliable operation of the WT4090 device within the customer's application environment.
