Scansource need some help with a technical question about the MC9090’s, Partner wants our devices to register in dynamic dns when they get a ip address from our dhcp server, but apparently that is only possible if Extended DNS Querying and Update Catalog item (SYSGEN_DNSAPI) is added to the operating system image, and it appears that Symbol did not add it.See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms884974.aspx for details.

Sorry, I guess I'm not being clear. The customer wants the Extended DNS Query functionality. It is included in an OS if the SYSGEN_DNSAPI flag is set. However, our standard OS does not include this flag. Options: 1) GRIP request to have this feature added to the next maintenance release 2) CPR to have a custom OS built for this customer. 3) Customer can create their own application that provides this functionality 4) Customer can find a third party application to provide this functionality
Just to further clarify, George's options 3 and 4 are both referring to applications performing this functionality WITHOUT relying on the OS component that is not included. That means the application would have to implement the entire functionality.
thnx Dave & George for clarifications adviced partner of option 3&4 as the most easiest solution.
Fusion is not involved in this function. Although it allows for the entry of multiple DNS server IP addresses, it does none of the DNS Queries. Perhaps there is a third party piece of software that will handle this function. Without having it built into the OS itself, there's no way to get it to work.
struggling to understand this:Our current CE build is not containing this flag, would it be possible to include that for a Partner ?Would a GRIP or CPR be a possibility ?or is there then still a need to have a 3rd party app handling these DNS Query with our Fusion ?
The link points to a CE5.0 posting. You are correct in that this flag (SYSGEN_DNSAPI) is not set in the MC9090 CE5.0 build. For WM5, Motorola doesn't have control of the options selected for this feature.
thnx George,i put device type to WM but should be CESo for CE 50 MC9090 would it be possible to use this any how this Extended DNS query ?will latest Fusion with multiple DNS somehow help ?
