Team, That must be an easy one but I would like a confirmation. A partner is asking whether the RFS is including any number of AAP licenses by default regardless of the number of the Access Port licenses purchased along with the box. Thanks in advance.

Nikos, Please take a look at the WiNG Licensing How-To guide posted here @ http://compass.mot.com/go/ewlan-guides and Motopedia @ http://motopedia.mot.com/wiki/HOW-TOs. Effectively we provide two types of AP licenses on the RF Switch:
AP Licenses - AP licenses can be used to adopt both Access Ports and Adaptive Access Points. When an RF Switch is purchased it is licensed to support a specific number of AP licenses. The RFS6000 supports a maximum of 48 licenses and the RFS7000 supports a maximum of 256 AP licenses.
AAP Licenses - AAP licenses can only be used to adopt Adaptive Access Points and can be used when 0 AP licenses are installed on an RF Switch or to increase the number of AAPs beyond the AP license capacity on the RF Switch. A RFS6000 can support 256 AAP licenses and an RFS7000 can support 1,024 AAP licenses. Note however that the total number of AP + AAP licenses cannot exceed 256 for the RFS6000 and 1,024 for the RFS7000.
Both AP and AAP licenses are shared between member switches in a cluster!
For AAP deployments you have two choices:1) Purchase an RF Switch with a base AP license then add the required number of AAP licenses to meet the customers AAP licensing needs. This model is recomedned when an RF Switch is managing both Access Ports and Adaptive Access Points.2) Purchase an RF Switch with 0 AP licenses then add the required number of AAP licenses to meet the customers AAP licensing needs. This model is recomended (but not required) for pure Adaprtive Access Point deployments when no Access Ports are being deployed.Regards,Kevin
When a customer buys a 6000 box with the base 8 AP licenses can it be used to adopt AAPs as well or does the customer need additional AAP licenses?
Yes those licences can be used for either AP or AAP, so in your example the RFS could adopt upto 8 AAP.
Hi Nikos, The answer is yes and no. Any RFS with a license count > 0 as part of the SKU contains support for both thin AP and AAP. An RFS with a 0 license count contains no support for any AP type. You need the additional certificates for AAP and/or thin AP license counts to build it up. Hopefully that makes sense. In addition, Motopedia has licensing info and a great How-To you can provide to the partner. http://motopedia.mot.com/wiki/How-To_Guide_Licensing%3B_AP_Licenses%2C_… Regards, Greg
