Wondering if anyone has come across any dealings with Intermec's Connection Manager (ICM) utility? This tool sports the feature of, as they put it, intelligent roaming between WWAN, WiFi and wired Ethernet. This could easily be construed as built-in least-cost-routing settings. We wish to fully understand if such an offering has real merit or is it simply marketing fluff. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

A while back, I looked through the documentation for Intemec's Connection Manager utility.  It appears to be a wrapper around Microsoft's Connection Manager and their radio code. Our group in ECRT developed a similar application for a trucking company out west.  At the time we looked into taking the code that was developed for this company and turning it into something similar to what Intermec devloped to help gain a competitive advantage.  The decision at the time was not to move forward.  If anyone is seeing this as a barrier to sales out in the field, it may be worth considering developing a sample application (similar to how datawedge started) to counter this application from Intermec.

Back in '03, I believe, Intermec and IBM joined forces to promote mobility via IBM's Websphere.  To deliver true mobility on the Intermec 700, which was equipped with WiFi and WWAN, IBM's Websphere Everyplace Connection Manager (WECM- a Microsoft Connection wrapper app) was introduced to the Intermec devices. If Intermec's current claim of such an offering, is a derivative of WECM, then, there is validity to their claim, as WECM did have a comprehensive connection management property.
