I have created an FAQ regarding Prizm->WM migration. This is a working document and more details will be added in the coming weeks. 1) When does support for Prizm officially expire?
Support for Prizm will be discontinued 12 months after the release of WM 3.0.
2) Till what date can customers purchase Prizm?
Prizm server part numbers will not be orderable starting from the day when WM 3.0 gets released. End-of-life notice to this effect will be issued 3 months prior to this date.
Node license part numbers will still be orderable until support for Prizm gets discontinued (see 1.)
3) If a customer buys PRIZM before WM 3.0 comes out, do they get a free upgrade? If not, how much does it cost?
Only customers who have purchased Prizm in 2010 will get a free upgrade to 3.0. All other Prizm customers will need to pay a maintenance fee to obtain WM 3.0.
4) How much does a Prizm maintenance agreement cost and how long does it provide coverage? What is covered?
There is no maintenance program for Prizm. However after WM 3.0 is released, Prizm customers will be able to migrate to WM and will be able to sign up for the WM maintenance program.
5) Why do you say customers need to upgrade to WM 3.0 within 12 months of 3.0 release? Will Prizm stop working? What happens if they don't upgrade in that time frame?
Even though Prizm software will continue to work for ever, Prizm support will be discontinued 12 months after the release of WM 3.0. In order for customers to get support for the latest hardware and firmware features, and for customers to get continued product support, we recommend that they migrate to WM 3.0 at the earliest possible time. Additionally, please see #3. to find out details regarding PMP firmware support.
6) Who should a customer talk to for more information about the WM 3.0 upgrade? Mike Watts
7) What does it mean that the WM 3.0 upgrade is only supported from Prizm 3.2 or Prizm 3.3? What happens if a customer has Prizm 3.1?
Upgrade to WM 3.0 is supported only from Prizm 3.3. Customers using earlier versions of Prizm have to upgrade to 3.3 in order to upgrade to WM 3.0. Upgrade to Prizm 3.3 from earlier versions of Prizm is free.
8) What does the actual "upgrade" consist of? Just new software, or are there tools that allow customer to transition? If so, what are they?
The upgrade will consist of WM software. WM software consists of:
· Base server software including license for the Physical Maps feature
· Licenses for the existing set of infrastructure nodes managed by Prizm
· Prizm Migration toolkit.
9) What Prizm data can be exported into WM?
Following Prizm data can be exported:
· Device discovery Information
· User account information
· VLAN profiles
· Bandwidth service plans
· Customer database
10) Can WM and BAM be collocated on the same machine?
No. WM and BAM need to deployed on different machines.
11) What is the recommended hardware for running WM 3.0?
Server Requirements - Server class hardware is recommended (as opposed to desktop hardware)
Minimum Server Requirements:
– 4GB RAM
– Dual-core processor, 2GHz+
– RAID 1 Storage
Large Server Requirements (100+ nodes):
– 8GB RAM
– Quad-core processor, 2GHz+
– RAID 5 Storage, 10k+ rpm drives
Client Requirements:
Any modern desktop or laptop hardware which can run a web browser and Java 1.6 should be able to run the WM Client. The officially supported operating systems for the WM 3.0 Client are 32-bit versions of RH Linux 5.5 and 32-bit version of Windows 7. MacOS is not supported.
Server Operating System Requirements
– Windows Server 2008 SP2
– Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.7 or 5.4 (32 bit) – On par with Prizm 3.3
12) What information must a customer provide in order to obtain WM licenses?
Customer should provide:
MAC address where WM will be installed.
MAC address where Prizm is currently installed.

When a Prizm customer upgrades to WM 3.0, following licenses will be issued:
WM Server Software license
License for the Physical Map feature
Licenses for the existing set of elements managed by Prizm. It does not matter when Prizm was actually purchased. New WM Licenses will be issued for the existing set of elements managed by Prizm.
Customers who bought Prizm in 2010 will get a free upgrade to WM. Customers who bought Prizm before 2010 will need to pay a maintenance fee.
Mike, Great information! The only question I have concerns element licenses. You state that customers that purchase Prizm in 2010 will get a free upgrade. Does this include element licenses or just the server license? Does the maintenance fee allow element licenses from pre-2010 to be upgraded? Thanks, Vern
