Received the following from Chris Sather of Motorola:
So, for whatever reason, the MC9060 DeviceID gets changed after the SCCM client is installed. The questions we?d like answered in regards to this are:
1)Why is the behavior different on the MC9060 devices vs. the MC9090 and MC70 devices
2) Is there a way to replicate the behavior of an MC9090/MC70 on an MC9060?
Our goal is to use the default settings of "0" for the SCCM settings but, as of today the only setting that works consistently is "3":
Value 0 : Default hardware ID functionality
Value 1 : Generate an ID based on a random numbers.
Value 2 : Generate ID from MAC address, if this fails return ID "NO_MAC_ADDR_DEVICE"
Value 3 : Generate ID from MAC address, if this fails generate an ID based on random numbers.
MC9060 Pre-SCCM ApplicationDownload DeviceID:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ApplicationDownload]
"DeviceID"="23482900-BE18-8467-E16C-D6AE529049F1"
MC9060 Post-SCCM ApplicationDownload DeviceID:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ApplicationDownload]
"DeviceID"="F538897C-A63F-2545-A130-A93F2C448F67

MC9090 Pre-SCCM ApplicationDownload DeviceID:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ApplicationDownload]
"DeviceID"="0F323231-2846-D421-9800-0050BF7A60E2"
MC9090 Post-SCCM ApplicationDownload DeviceID:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ApplicationDownload]
"DeviceID"="0F323231-2846-D421-9800-0050BF7A60E2"
do you have a MC9060 with CE5?
I posted the hex images to compass.
http://compass.mot.com/go/346550965
After hex load, you will get a red error/info screen. Active sync the device and remote registry view the key
· [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ApplicationDownload] "DeviceID
Active sync the file NW.XML to the \Application \TargetCFG
Drive to a Target Store Parking Lot, and cold boot ( the SCCM client needs to talk to a Target Server)
stay connected to the network for about 5 minutes, and then do few warm boots
Go back and hopefully see the registration key has changed

Is this:
Anything we're aware of?
Anything we support?
A good set of reproduction steps?
