We are testing AP6511 in some stores of a chained cafe for hotspots application. If no encryption / authentication are used, everything works ok, but when encryption / authentication are used, an AP6511 can hardly support the clients in a store. For 802.1x/peap and wpa2 enterprise, if more than 5 clients are connected to one AP6511, surfing is very slow. If wpa2 PSK is used, it is better. The limit is about 30 clients. Without security setting, more than 30 clients can work smoothly, however, security is mandatory.
Embedded RADIUS server is used, and our partner has tested firmware 5.1.0.0-074R and 5.2. We will test 5.2.1 shortly. Before that, anyone knows how many clients AP6511’s hardware can support via 802.1x / PEAP or WPA2 Enterprise?
Another question is that whether our AP can deny connection requests if MU’s SNR is lower than a threshold? Many competitors’ products provide that feature to prevent clients close but out of the area requires coverage to connect to APs. Our customer is not willing to lower the output power of AP because they do not want to compromise the coverage inside their store.
Thank you!
