Microsoft Security Update causes MSP problems

Microsoft has rolled out a security update which negatively affects MSP console operations.  The security update was made available in late December. The security update is for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 (KB2656356) - MS11-100.  For details on the update see  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=237378 Application of this update could cause failures of MSP console operations.  MSP customers should delay applying this update if possible. The update will affect all versions of MSP.  After the security update is applied it limits the number of items in a web form posting.  "Items" refers to text boxes, buttons, check boxes, pulldown lists, etc.  Some MSP console pages can be very complex and can exceed the number of items that the default configuration (after the security fix) allows. The failure can manifest itself by a generic error screen and being logged off of MSP.  The warning message in the eventlog is “The URL-encoded form data is not valid.”    A "manual" fix is available from the help desk for customers that are affected by this issue now.  We are working on a generally-deployable fix which should be available shortly.   Ed Rowlance
