WAN Response Times

I have a customer who is using an application written and developed by a partner for the MC65 and MC75A.  The application connects via a WAN 3G (Sprint and AT&T) connection to a webserver using HTTPS.  It is a pretty standard application add/update/delete/lookup data in a file on the Webserver.  Preliminary data suggest the Webserver is responding quickly but overall response times can sometimes reach 5-8 seconds and in some cases 10+.  Just curious if there is any benchmark data of what others generally see with response times for an application written for WAN.  Obviously we are trying to gather more data (Network Traces, RIL Logs, etc.), but our customer has asked what is a generally acceptable response time for this type of application.  Any feedback would be appreciated. thanks

It is called 'Swift Foods' and is a .NET C# application that uses bar codes to lookup data either from a local SQL database or over 802.11, GPRS, Cradle, etc. Using that application typical access times to display the result pages are
