Using a "remote file" for both tree and auto-placement settings

For discovery settings, there is an option on both immediate and scheduled methods to select a "remote file", which can be dowloaded via http, thhps, ftp or scp. However, for tree settings and auto-placement rules, all one can do is clicking on import button and manually get the file. Is there some undocumented way to do a scheduled download of these files using a remote method? If not, is this feature on ADSP's roadmap? I have been told by teh customer that CiscoWorks seems to have this feature.

Yes that is a legal file import format.  The one caveat is tree levels must exist before placement rules or devices can be fully imported.  Importing tree and placement rule imported together may occasionally result in placement rule import failure if the tree level has not had a chance to be fully persisted on the system.  If setting this up in an automated way it may not hurt to simply run the import twice a few minutes apart to ensure any new tree levels are fully added to the system.

I tested this and I found that importing APs works, importing rules works too. But importing trees requires pressing Apply button on Tree Setup menu! It's not automatic. Once you press this button, you see the changes. If you don't press the Apply button, file contents are not applied to actual Tree settings. Can someone please double-check?

The scheduled remote file import allows any type of record to be imported into the system it is not limited to just devices.  A single file can be used for multiple import types, the file format of each import type has a record field as the first column in the file.  This record type allows the system to tell what type of information the individual line in the file is so it can be processed.  A single file could have tree levels, placement rules, relay servers, devices and any other type of information that could be imported. The import options found for the individual features are just in place for convince. Nathan
