Bill, I believe your customer is really asking about FIPS ( Federal Information Processing Standard ) 140-2, not FIPS 201. FIPS 201 has to do with Personal Identity Verification (PIV) for Federal Government employees and contractors, and usually deals with implementations on Smart Cards. FIPS 140-2 is a Federal Government standard for cryptographic modules. The Fusion used in the MC 75A and MC 55A has been FIPS 140-2 validated and is listed at the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) web site at
http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/STM/cmvp/documents/140-1/1401val2009.htm#12…. This listing is for the Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5 version of Fusion. Note that right above is the listing for the Windows CE 6.0 version of Fusion. Unfortunately, the MC 1000 runs Windows CE 5.0.
To enable the FIPS 140-2 mode, refer to the Wireless Fusion Enterprise Mobility Suite User Guide for Version 3.00 (P/N 72E-122495-01 Rev. B). On page 12 – 2 (Adobe Reader p. 96), are the instructions for setting the registry entry to enable FIPS mode on the MC 75A and MC 55A and any mobile computer running Fusion v3.00 with an MPA 2 or later platform.
