I have a client that is looking at the VC70 units and are a J.D. Edwards customer. Does anyone else have a simular situation and what challenges did you see? Trying to decide if the VC5090 would be a better offer right now..... Thanks, Bill

Not sure what is the question, however, just want to point out the following:
The VC70N0 is Motorola Solutions new ultra-rugged vehicle-mounted mobile computer (See PMB # 2197 for more details).  Motorola continues to invest in this best-in-class, feature rich product to optimize user productivity and application performance in the warehouse. As a result, we will soon be shipping our VC70 with enhanced software and better-protected external keyboards.

The new software provides additional features and capabilities that will strengthen the VC70 performance with the following:

New and improved WLAN software with CCX (Cisco Compatible Extensions including fast roaming) support and Federal Government grade FIPS-140-2 (key derivation) security compliancy
New and improved SSI driver for LS3408-ER and DS3508-ER corded scanners
New pre-installed and pre-licensed Wavelink TE version 7.3.146 allowing the use of scan handlers when connected via USB (HID – Human Interface Device; scan data treated as keyboard input)

Pre-installed AppCenter, a fully configurable, stand-alone, lockdown solution that provides complete control over device applications and functionality
Pre-installed PTT Express (previously called TEAM Express) for peer-to-peer voice communication and collaboration with both public and private calls using the external speaker and the external Push-To-Talk microphone
Physical keyboards enhancements including on-keyboard indication of SHIFT, SHIFT LOCK, FUNC, FUNC LOCK, CTRL and ALT keys for QWERTY, AZERTY and Numeric keyboards
New Registry Archiver Control Panel utility to protect registry setting during cold boot or image update
OSupdate application support
New touch screen driver adjusted to the VC70 screen for better user experience
Sensors application with ‘excess shock’ recording
Stonestreet One Bluetooth stack support with configuration applet adjusted for both XGA and SVGA screen resolutions

The new features are supported with new and enhanced Product Reference Guide 72-164686-01 Revision B.

In addition, we have upgraded our keyboard to provide improved wear resistance and durability. The external keyboards will now ship bundled with a keyboard protection grill and can be ordered with new kit part numbers. These new bundles will replace the current part numbers.

A PMB will be published with more information within a week or so. Amnon
