Tom, Please let us know if you are able to downgrade to JB

Here's some additional information regarding attempts to downgrade my device back to JB. I tried loading the following JB packages:
M40N0JXXVRUxx20520.zip
M40N0JXX0RUxx20520.zip
M40N0JXXVRUxx30208.zip
M40N0JXX0RUxx30208.zip (this is what was loaded prior to upgrading to KK)

I get the following error when attempting to load either version of the 0208 image:

Stop update, check_hw() return false
Installation aborted.

I get the following error when attempting to load M40N0JXXVRUxx20520.zip:

Verifying update package...

I get the following error when attempting to load M40N0JXX0RUxx20520.zip:

Installation aborted.

I tried loading the packages via adb sideload and Recovery Mode. No problems upgrading to KK. My device hardware config shows a Touch of "Novatech." So I followed David's procedure for that type. I also loaded the optional "recovery-update-voice-kk.zip."

One question I have is regarding the MFD on my device. It shows "MFD: 13NOV12 MVKS." Can this be the root cause?
