It was charged last night. Appears to have drained the battery fast.

Sorry for the late response.
The scenario you describes might be similar to CQ EMBPD00097529.
EMBPD00097529 –[SIT][SYS] LED display 'charging error' notification when charging for long time
That’s because the backdoor status is not synced, the device stopped charging.
If the device is not charging, the battery will be consumed and powered off once the capacity is less than 10%. Then the device entered charge only mode.
It has been fixed in BSP 01.21.
