I see from earlier posts that the upcoming EB v1.8 will support an immersive mode that removes the nav bar. Will this feature be compatible with the TC51 we have recently purchased, running Android 6.0.1?

Yes, it is going to be supported from Enterprise Browser 1.8 release. Note: It will be supported on MC18 Android Lollipop device and on all other Android devices which has MX 7.1 version & above and OSX 6.2 version & above.
