IBM Seeks COVID-19 Solutions with Call for Code 2020

In an effort toward driving solutions for the global Wuhan virus pandemic, Big Blue has published its third Call for Code starter kit. Coding projects are focused on crisis communication, remote education and community cooperation. 

 

Microsoft Power Apps Runs Canvas, Model-driven Apps with No Code

The latest preview of Microsoft's Power Apps "low-code" development solution reportedly supports gestures, improves animation and sports a more intuitive interface that's more in line with other mobile development tools of its kind. 

 

Open Source Fonts More of a Thing

The trend for companies to offer typeface familes, some of which can sell for $1000 or more, is now to offer some or all variations of one or more of their fonts to the developer communuty for use and modification completely free of charge.  

 

Google Gives More Code Search

In the spirit of giving, Google has decided to give away Code Search tools for some of its most popular open source projects, including Angular, Dart, Firebase SDK, Flutter, Go, gVisor, Kythe, Tensorflow and several others.

Theia Attempts to Eclipse Visual Studio Code

Theia, the Eclipse project designed for building IDEs that can run extensions written for Microsoft's Visual Studio Code tool, has reached version 1.0. While it's not yet available for end-users, a developer version of the multi-language platform for building desktop and web-based IDEs is available now.
