Google Throws a RAG at AI Devs

Google has unveiled the Vertex AI RAG Engine, the main feature of which the company says facilitates retrieval-augmented generation to maintain separation between LLM data and the developer's own. 

 

Microsoft Gives Copilot for Free

In a move clearly designed to help gain traction for its flagging AI solution, Redmond has introduced Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, a free version of its $50 per-month, per-user AI development toolset.

Raise your hand if you knew that browsers were configurable with something called "Tight Mode." Apparently, there's a way to control and prioritize how and when to load the resources needed to render pages. Currently, only Chrome and Safari offer a tight, tight, tight option. 

 

Biden Criticized for Eleventh-Hour AI Policy

On its way out the door, the Biden Administration has released a rule that expands U.S. control over export of advanced processors and software to "keep advanced AI models out of the hands of malicious actors." Sounds reasonable, but big tech is not pleased.

The Chinese company Hytera Communications has admitted to stealing intellectual property owned by Motorola Solutions. The heisted trade secrets relate to the company's walkie-talkie technologies, which can now be found in the felonious company's products sold in Australia. 

 

Linux Foundation All-in On Chromium

The Linux Foundation, the non-profit founded in 2000 to promote development of Linux and other open-source projects, has put its weight behind Chromium. A new group called "Supporters of Chromium-based Browsers" will help secure funding for the ecosystem.
