HI,

We are utilizing Link OS SDK for Zebra IOS mobile printing as per recommendation from zebra partner for Manhattan Associates.

We observed for LInk OS the printer only accepts ZPL format, can you please share how the pdf file can be converted to zpl format to print the labels.

We can make use of java backend if zebra library is available for this conversion.

Thanks

Link-OS printers support PDF print since the Link-OS v6.3. You can download the PDF Direct emulator and install it on a printer with Link-OS v6.3 or later. Once the PDF Direct is installed and enabled, you can call the sendFileContents() API to send the PDF file directly to the printer to print. There is no need to convert a PDF to ZPL anymore. The PDF Direct emulator can be downloaded from the Factory Installed Printer Emulations package under the firmware section on the printer support page. You can refer to this article for the detail on how to install and enable the PDF Direct emulator - Announcement | Printers Include Free PDF Direct with Link-OS 6.3.

You can also use the Zebra Printer Setup app on Android or iOS to install and enable the PDF Direct.

Is it possible to convery PDFs on mobile to a format that can be printed without the PDF Direct?

while PDF Direct sounds nice, for customers with existing printers, i have a fear that they will have trouble updating the firmware and would rather build the capability to have it act as a driver.

i know on a normal computer if i have a pdf, i can to control+P then print to a zebra printer and it just works. Is there a way to do something like this on mobile? Also, how did people do PDFs on mobile sending to zebra label printers before the new PDF direct was released?

Lastly, is there a way to update the firmware from a device that isn't the zdownloader windows tool? I am not sure all of our customers would even have a windows computer to be able to use that on.
