Motorola Headset Computer Markets

The headset computer is a game-changing technology for multiple vertical markets where Motorola Solutions already has a strong presence. The key target markets for the device, initially, are within utilities, industrial construction, telecommunications, field service, maintenance, and repair applications, although there are many others.

As a full-screen, mobile auxiliary display and wearable system replacement / complement for fixed PCs and rugged laptops, the headset computer provides hands-free mobile computing in high-altitude and extreme condition environments to: improve inspection time and accuracy, reduce labor rate for one-man operations and improve worker safety on job sites.

·         Industrial Construction: Program managers, engineers, and architects read very complex plans on-site and could benefit from mobile, virtual-reality enhancements of the plans using the headset computer.

·         Military: Mechanics and electronics repairmen of vehicles and electronics systems can access vehicle manuals and electronics plans of secondary subsystems.  The headset computer can be used for simulation and training, providing situational and context awareness.  Military healthcare providers and combat medics can provide training and trauma care using the headset computer.

·         Service Maintenance and Repair: Repair of office equipment or other technology services, and vehicle repair for fleets and heavy machinery, including road building, agricultural, truck (mining and excavation), and car fleets.

·         Utilities: Workers can use the headset computer to install, build and repair utility systems.  For example, inspect, test, repair, or maintain electrical equipment, cables and wires, electric meters, gas regulators, thermostats, safety and flow valves, and other electro-mechanical systems.

·         Aerospace and Aviation: Mechanics can perform hands-free vehicle repair and field service for high-tech aviation electronics and engines.

·         Healthcare: Military or civilian trauma care using the headset computer to access patient records or care documentation.

·         Public Safety:  Officers can have full patrol car data and communication resources available when dismounted and on foot.  Specifically, officers can remotely access their in-vehicle computers to view suspect photos or other important situational information.  Public safety officers can have access to critical “context aware” applications, enabling SWAT teams to access building blueprints and high-definition video feeds from remote sources.
