From a Product Management perspective, we want to understand if it makes sense to Instead of building the label by parsing the label printer language (Zebra’s ZPL) in our application and sending to the printer, maybe upload the label to the printer and send the label data to the printer. In that case, we will be able to eliminate the complicated parsing process and maintenance.
It does make sense to store the label formats into the printer and only send the variable data to call up the format and populate the variable fields.
This is especially true if you are printing only a certain number of formats that never change.
Pages 50-51 of the ZPL manual describe how to store label formats on the printer and recall them along with populating the data fields.
