In a few weeks I'll go into detail about how to print using the RhoMobile suite to Zebra printers. Until then, I thought I would bring up printing with the RhoElements runtime and APD.  There is a good amount of documentation out there for this, but I thought I could add some updates and it occurred to me that a good basic example would be useful.

Before you start (or "Step 0" for those of you who like zero-based arrays)

Check your device to see if it is GB or JB ..and whether it is a Voice or Non-Voice unit. Here's how..

- check your Build Number in Settings.. About Device.  

   - if the 2nd section is "4AJ11" this unit is already on JellyBean - SKIP TO STEP 3 below

   - if it has the string "-V0-" it is a voice unit. If it has the string "-00-" it is non-voice unit

Keyboard input form virtual keyboard is very sensitive and duplicate key presss occurs.

Multiple characters are entered.

You may have started to look at our upcoming RhoMobile Suite 4.0 release now it beta form and see that we have a strong focus on Javascript as well as making our API set more consistent and less redundant when it comes to hardware level API's - whether you are writing consumer style apps or applications for the Enterprise. One area I have seen beta testers stumbling on is trying to get their JavaScript code running on a device.

By default, when the screen is rotated your Activity is killed and restarted.  See the sample code below to save the state

I've talked a little bit about why the Visible Value Chain, providing visibility to a company’s assets, is so important when designing enterprise apps.  Zebra helps enable this by providing item and transaction level tracking.  This is great, but if you can't aggregate it, analyze the data, and provide meaningful actions based on it, it is just data. 

I thought I would share my experiences with the community from when I created my first application and the hints and tips which I picked up from the internet and from colleagues. Hopefully the information below may help others who want to take the step to creating their first "Hello World" SB1 application. In this guide I will show how I have completed it using a Windows 7 machine, however it is just as simple to do using Linux and I have included links for that too.

It is important to note that when pairing with BSP44 that you must enter PIN number quickly otherwise it will not pair. 

WIth BSP44 and the RS507 with firmware PAAACS00-005-R02D0 the procedure is as follows:

1.  Load the follwing as a reg file into the Application Folder
